Our original 'Surgical Firefighting' course is outlined below. This gives a flavour of how we like to approach courses. Our philosophy is to teach through doing which is why our candidates spend a lot of time in simulation, cadaver labs and masterclass workshops. Watch this space for new versions of this course soon.
Day one starts with Trauma Lectures from the lead faculty covering advanced resuscitation techniques and team leadership. Learning is consolidated through simulated trauma cases working in multiprofessional and multidisciplinary teams with expert feedback. All cases are based on real and challenging trauma cases.
Day two takes place in the cadaver lab at Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre. Candidates learn from experts how to perform life saving procedures including thoracostomy, thoracotomy, cardiac/lung repair, surgical airway, IO access, chest drains and more.
Day three focuses on the definitive surgery phase. Candidates learn essential general and vascular exposure techniques. Theatre teams work together in the cadaver lab under expert tuition to learn how to manage complex trauma patients with vascular injury.
