Our Mission is to improve the care of the traumatically injured patient within the first 24 hours of injury through innovative and immersive education. We focus on those patients who require early resuscitation and surgical intervention to save their lives.
The MATT courses are designed and delivered by an expert team of clinicians who are actively involved in advanced trauma care from roadside through to definitive care and rehabilitation.
Our course conveners are all specialists in acute care specialities with additional training and experience in trauma care. Our aim is to bring together senior clinicians in prehospital, emergency, anaesthesia and surgical care to optimise the care of patients in the first 24 hours of care.

The core MATT course is split into three components
Day 1 covers the initial reception phase and focuses on the skills of the trauma team leader and trauma teams. We use complex high fidelity simulations to challenge multi-professional teams with difficult cases based on real patient episodes.
Day 2 focuses on clinical skills combining expert anatomical, surgical and resuscitation skills using cadaveric labs at the University of Manchester to provide unrivalled practical experience in procedures such as thoracotomy and surgical airway.
Day 3 is aimed at senior surgeons and anaesthetists in the planning and execution of definitive management of visceral and vascular trauma. Our model of learning that builds on an expert group who bring their experience and training to the course recognises and enhances prior training to further develop expertise.
Our mission is to embrace the pursuit of excellence both inside and outside the operating room. We encourage critical thinking and emphasise the learning process. We constantly innovate on our courses based on new educational techniques and feedback.
